Please Don’t Feed The Horses: Why These Public Notices Exist.

Estimated Reading Time: 5 minutes Not long ago, after spending some time with my surrogate family in London and visiting a public area that had some horses in fields I decided to write this blog for educational purposes for people who want to know why the equestrian fraternity do not like the public feeding their horses. First off I just want to say that it is not because us horsy folks are being difficult or are being asses. It is for a genuine reason which could very much cost a horse its life and its owner a lot of money. I will use this blog to explain as plainly as possible why this is the case without dipping into too much science but as per usual I will insert hyperlinks at the bottom Read more…

An Approach To The Global Grain Issue

Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes It has taken quite a lot of forethought on writing this blog, primarily because I have wanted to avoid turning it into a political piece, or involving diving into any political debate or opinion and as this is centred around a global agricultural issue and an affected global agricultural issue which means a global food issue which means an affected global economy. But the reality is with a piece like this you cannot help but delve into some politics. Of course the issue started with the invasion, or as Vladimir Putin prefers β€œspecial military operation”, of Ukraine by Russia, on Thursday, 24th of February so we are now approaching the two month mark. This invasion has obviously affected the export of Ukrainian wheat with Ukraine having been the Read more…

It All Starts With a Journey

Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes When I first created this blog it was with the intention of primarily blogging about my journey back into the world of agriculture and more specifically livestock farming because I feel that, while crop farming is as important my heart has always been on working with cattle and horses, it’s how it has been since I was a kid and that has stayed with me as I’ve grown older and now in my early forties. That is still the wish with this blog and I have no intention of deviating from that path. But to me it is more than just blogging about my intended agricultural journey in a country or a part of the world where I would much rather be than where I am right now Read more…

The Times Are A-Changin’

Estimated Reading Time: 4 minutes The other day I was walking to an appointment listening to my music on my iPhone playing through my earpods and the song made popular by Bob Dylan which has become popular across the generational divide, The Times Are A-Changin’ covered by Fort NowhereΒ came on. A song which I find very apt considering the past two years that we, as humanity have had to face, from the goings-on surrounding the killing of George Floyd, regardless of what you think of the killing and whether it was justified or not. To the riots and other protests that were sparked globally by the occurrence which sparked a war and tensions against the thin blue line across the United States that may never be quelled, or maybe never is an exaggeration Read more…

The Need for Belonging

Estimated Reading Time: 5 minutes The need for belonging is what we all feel in need of, as drawn out in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Being a fourth-generation Zimbabwean was strange for me growing up because I never really felt like I belonged, I didn’t really identify with the majority of my white Zimbabwean friends that much and can never really say I had many white β€œmates”, most of my friends, both as a kid and as an adult were black Zimbabweans and even though I joined the Zimbabwe Republic Police at the age of 19 I still never really felt like I belonged and although I speak Shona fluently and my white man’s accent goes completely when I start speaking. I still never really felt like I belonged. I just have a Read more…

A Stage of Grief

Estimated Reading Time: 5 minutes Many of you will probably be thinking β€œwhy the heck is this guys very first blog about grief? Is he a saddo? He must be”. The short answer to that is no, I am not but I think it is a very important topic to raise. For those that are grieving and for those who have had the benefit of not yet having to grieve. Or simply to just get a brief understanding on how to deal with someone who is grieving, whether it be a work colleague, a friend or a family member. Grief – What is it? The definition of grief in dictionary.com defines as keen mental suffering or distress over affliction or loss; sharp sorrow; painful regret. Or a cause or occasion of keen distress Read more…
